Not connecting

Recommended Posts

HI

I have version 4.929 installed and appear to be having a few problems

When i start FSX i can see FSUIPC in the addons menu but i cannot workout if anything is working. For example i have a registered copy with Wide FS enabled. Whilst i don't use anything across my network i no longer see the script on the top of the fsx say "waiting for connections" or similar.

When i boot up FS Commander it cannot find FSX and likewise a program i used as part of my flight logging for BA Virtual is connecting either.

can you help please?  I wasn't sure what information to post so i have started with the basics

regards

Daren

Hi Daren,

If you look in FSX/modules, is a new FSUIPC4.log being created when you run FSX? If so, can you post its contents please, following a short flight and closing the sim normally? Also, what version of Windows are you running?

Cheers,

Hello again,

Well FSUIPC is definitely running - there are no errors there at all.

Unfortunately Pete is away at the moment - he's back tomorrow, I believe. The only other things I can suggest in his absence are working through the WideFS setup from the FSUIPC documentation and checking that everything is correct. The last time I lost WideFS connectivity, it turned out that the IP address of my FS (WideFS server) desktop PC had been changed and that had caused the system to stop working.

The other file that's useful for diagnostic purposes is FSUIPC4.ini, which Pete may well ask for the contents of.

Cheers,

Ian P.

  HI

 thanks for your quick reply

I am running Win  7 Pro. Log below

Hmm. The problem appears to be that FSUIPC isn't actually getting started in flight mode.  There should be a log entry saying "Starting everything now ...".  Assuming you were in flight mode, ready to fly, at some point before you closed down, I think there's some messages from SimConnect, essential to FSUIPC, which are not arriving. Are you starting up in Paused or Slew mode at all?

There are some logging options which I can get you to switch on which might tell me more.

Let me know what i need to do please?

Assuming you aren't starting in Paused or Slew mode, which can sometimes result in a stall initially, I suspect the messages needed by FSUIPC aren't arriving from SimConnect because the latter is overloaded at start-up time.  In the log you posted initially, how long were you actually flying for? It looks like you closed down after a few minutes.

You said you weren't running anything on the Network, so what do you use WideFS for?

When you say "when i boot up FS Commander it cannot find FSX and likewise a program i used as part of my flight logging for BA Virtual is connecting either", are both of those, then, running on the same PC as FSX? If so then they should connect -- the only thing which might stop them s if you are running FSX at a different privilege level to those programs -- either run everything normally, or everything "as administrator", not a mixture.

HI Pete

The widefs is just habit i suppose. I used to run programs on a networked laptop so i am used to see the additional writing on the top of the window. I now run everything on the same client but i have noticed when the widefs text is missing then the programs like fscommander fail to connect as described.

i have fired up FSX this morning and everything has connected fine with the widefs text showing at the top of the screen so something is going on.

i have all my applications running in administrator mode. just doubled checked that just in case i missed one.

thanks

Hello Pete and Daz,

may I just put myself in this discussion as well as I'm having the same Problem as Daz.

I'm just Setting-up my new FSX-PC and can't get Wide FS to be connected with the client PC.  It was working fine with my old FSX-PC but now it just doesn't want to connect.  FSX is always 'waiting for clients' but not getting connected.  The Client PC is still the same which was working fine with my old FSX-PC.  I tried to disable the Firewall and the Anti-Virus but still no change.  Both PCs are working with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Any idea about the reason?  What can I do to resolve the problem?

Thanks

Detlef

It is most certainly NOT the same problem -- in Daz's case the server was not even waiting for clients, and in fact FSUIPC wasn't starting. A completely different set of symptoms!

I can't tell why your client isn't connecting without information. i need to see both FSUIPC and WideServer logs from the FS Modules folder, and the Wideclient log from the client.

You make the 4th person unable to paste. I assume you are using Internet Explorer? Somehow some recent update from MS has really clobbered things. Please see this thread where I believe the answer was found:

The FSUIPC and Server logs you supplied show everything is good at the FS PC end, with the Server ready and waiting. Where's the WideClient log? I can't help with only one half of the story.

Okay. You Server is not sending broadcasts to your Client. They are probably in different workgroups. Didn't you read any of the WideFS user guide at all? The bit you need to refer to is the bit entitled "Configure your network", the bit with the red notice saying IT IS IMPORTANT FOR ALL USERS TO READ AT LEAST PART OF THIS!

Have a go, and let me know.

Hello Pete,

I new that the workgroups have to be the same and I was of the opinion that this is the case (but without checking ).  Of course, you were right, they had diff. workgroups and I corrected it.  After that I als had to setup the firewall, but now it is working just fine.

Thanks for your support, w/o that I probably would still try to verify what the problem is....

Hi Pete,

My issue started when I reinstalled P3D because a file got corrupted. So far I was able to get all my add ons installed until i got to FSUIPC4. The issues is: none of my keys for either FSUIPC4 or WideFS is not accepting my registration keys therefore I am unable to use my network computers.

FYI I also have FSX installed on my pc as well.

I am attaching all the logs that have been created by the software.

Please let me know if you need any further info.

The key file would have been generated in the FSX Modules folder then copied over for P3D. I don't know why yours didn't get copied, but you can easily do it yourself -- just copy the FSUIPC4.KEY file from your FSX modules folder to your Prepar3D modules folder.

BTW please, next time you have a problem, do not append it to a thread which is about an entirely different matter. It makes it much more awkward for others trying to search for solutions!

Thank you.

Pete

Hello Roger,

I simply 'told' the firewall to accept all connections for the Fligth simulator and that worked...

I had to change the settings of the firewall from 'automatic' to 'manual'.  That way it asked for each new conection if it should accept the connection or not.  When it came to the Flight Simulator I simply accepted the connetion and asked the firewall to always accept that connection.  Since than FS Wide works.

I hope that information works for you.

Detlef
