  1. Ok it looked like I made a mistake---that being I thought I made mistake, but, according to this additional info, I didn't make a mistake, except for thinking I made a mistake. :?:  :?:  :?:

So, in keeping with Landing time at Emma starting a 1100... that would be landing times starting at 1900 GMT. Is that a good time for everyone?

  2. Attention!!!

I think I got the ZULU time wrong for the event times. The landing times will start at 11 AM local EMMA time. I think I incorrectly id'd' that at 1900 GMT.

Please confirm, 11 AM Emma time is 2000 GMT

So as the landing times are starting at 11 AM Emma time (2000 GMT) the take off times should be at least one hour before you assigned landing time..

I think this is correct, if I did my math correctly.

Encase anyone was wondering why I adjusted the scoring. With the use of the GPS you could get pretty close to your arrival time, so I did the point scoring at 15 seconds to help eliminate any ties with scores. I added the points for less that 60 min flight time so if anyone did get there early than expected, they can still get a score. I added the minus points (a good thing) to give credit for those of you choosing to fly a little longer, really meant as a tie breaker, but it won't be that way... but you will get credit for flying a little extra longer.

  3. If I was flying in the Jan Fly in, here is the way I would figure out what I wanted to do to not only have fun, but to get close to my assigned arrival time. There are other ways to do this, probably more realistic but I would use what I had and do it this way... these are just suggestions

I would look in FS Nav and pick an airport slightly over 100 miles from Emma. (remember you need fly for at least one hour)

I would an aircraft with a GPS

Set the GPS to go direct to Emma.

Take off and note the take off time.

Fly at a speed somewhere in between the minimum and the maximum speed of the airplane. (this will allow you to adjust your speed on the big day to allow for winds) If you have a head wind, you can speed up to the max speed of the plane and if you have a tail wind you can slow down towards the minimum speed of the plane.

The GPS will give you an ETA and you can adjust your speed to arrive just before your assigned time. This will allow time to have make an approach and land. Remember you will need to line up and slow your speed down to land.

FYI, a GPS is why I adjusting the scoring to 15 sec increments to help split out the score a bit to help eliminate any tie scores.

The time it takes to fly to Emma will give you a good base line start time by subtracting the time of flight from your arrival time to get a take off time.

If you have the time, you may want to try it a few times so you can get a average time with landings on different runways (the different approaches will take different times.)

As you won't know the what the winds are and direction until that day.I would be surprise if people arrive anywhere from 5 min early to 5 min late. I know the GPS can help a lot to get you there on the correct minute, but then you need to get yourself down safely. better to get extra time and get a score than to hurry the approach and crash and get no score.

So, after you get your arrival time, just subtract your average flight time and take off then. Adjust your speed to account for winds and have fun flying into emma!!!

    Most important to have fun!!!

  4. Over view

This multiplayer event is centered on being able to figure, take off time, distance, aircraft speed and wind speed to arrive and land at a specific time.

    Objectives

    1. Have fun and keep the “play” in Mulitplayer!!!!

    2. Plan a take off time and airspeed while taking into account winds to arrive and land at Emma at your assigned time

Participants will take off from an airport of their choosing and time of their choosing, to LAND at Emma field at their assigned time. To qualify, you must have a successful landing.

Date and time: Sat, 27 Jan 2007 Landing times will be assigned starting at 11:00 AM US Pacific coast time (Emma time) if I figured it our correctly, that would be 1900 Z. Participants can request an arrival time, providing it’s not too spread out. The more in the air the merrier!!

    Aircraft used

Pilots can use the fixed wing A/C of their choice, providing it’s allowed to land at Emma.

Weather. Weather will be set in FShost and sent to all participants so all have the same wind direction and speed. We will have a clear sky.

Landing times: Landing times will be assigned at 5 min intervals, closer depending on how many sign up. Sign up on this post or via e-mail or PM to Mark Hansen (Tinman). Assigned times for pilots will be posted on the thread. Pilots should indicate planed time of take off and airport prior to event start.

Flight length. Airport chosen for take off must allow a flight of at least 1 hour in a near straight path to Emma. No 360’s or zig-zags allowed adjusting arrival time. All flights will be done on the multiplayer session.

Arrival intent: If runway 18 is active (based on winds), planes approaching from the north, will have a straight in approach. Planes approaching from the south can have one downwind, base and final. Opposite is true for runway 36. (Objective is to not go into a pattern until your assigned arrival time) Missed approach will not be penalized if after your assigned time of landing. Come in and land to get a point score to qualify. A missed approach before your arrival time will be evaluated to determine if it was done to get closer to your arrival time.

MP server. Main Emma Flight server and Team speak server. Back up server will be announced later. Stay tuned on the forum for any last minute updates. Prior to taking off.

Voice – Emma Team speak channel is highly encouraged (its more fun that way, plus I can’t type too fast :D )

Time hacks: As the landing times are the a critical factor, official time hacks will be transmitted via team speak every 5 mins and each minute as pilots get closer to Emma to keep them notified of the official time. Times hacks will be announced starting up to 1 hour and 30 prior to the first landing time. (Starting with the first person signing on to the session) Time hacks can also be put out as text in the MP session if requested.

The winner will be the pilot that has the least points. Active runway will be determined by the current winds. Landing must be successful in order to qualify for a score.

Judging. The judge will be at Emma on the approach end of Emma runway to mark the landing time. The Wheels down time will be used, not crossing the end of the runway.

    Scoring system…

One point for each 15 seconds for arriving before or after assigned time.

0 to 15 seconds before or after assigned time – zero points.

15 – 30 seconds after or before arrival time 1 point,

30 – 45 seconds before or after arrival time 2 points

45 – 60 seconds before or after arrival time 3 points etc.

--Flight time points. If arrive too early AND flight is less that 60 min:

    45 – 50 min flight time 20 points

    50 – 55 min flight time 10 points

    55 – 60 min flight time 5 points

    60 - 65 mins – zero points.

    65 – 70 min minus 1 point.

    70 – 75 min minus 2 points.

    75 - 80 min minus 3 points.

    80 – 85 min minus 4 points.

    85 – 90 min minus 5 points.

Pilot with the least points wins!!! Remember objective #1 !!!

I hope I took care of everything, if not please let me know.

So grab your E6B figure out how long it will take to get to Emma, get an arrival and joint the fun. Remember winner gets a 25 page Flight crew Check list book, perfect for the info you need close at hand while flying, a great addition to your flight desk.

Let me know what arrival time you need.

  5. LOL :D

You know when you have been flying too much when...

You use an E6B to figure when you will get to the next town or exit from the highway.

When you drive down the highway and you think, gee, I'm getting great frame rates.

    Come on any others??

That true Francois, I don't drive a manual transmission. I guess hitting the clutch would be better that hitting the brake!

  6. I saw a string like this on another forum a long ago and it was so funny, I thought we could try it here.

You know you have been flying too much when...

You drop off your spouse at the store so they can run in to pick up something real quick... and you enter a "holding pattern" in the parking lot until they return.

When you want to make a left turn and you step on the brake.

As you get ready to turn into the drive way, you are turning "final".

  7. I was able finally able to get in last night (this morning) and had a fun helo flight with Heli and Carlos. I put FS Nav on MP to see if I could and had no problems.

Still confused about the port. FS NAv went into port 23477 but my flying was on port 24477. I don't know much about it, seemed funny though; I was able to see us 3 on FSnav... I'm sure there is a logical networking explanation, but I don't know it.

  8. Thanks for the help...

I did a stupid thing... before I started tinkering with the kneeboard_keys.htm file, I didn't get a backup saved out. Can anyone send me their kneeboard_keys.htm file (the one from their FS 9\Aircraft) folder.

I guess I need to start over with the changes. I tried to install a kneeboard file that has some bells and extra stuff like getting you out on the internet to look up some stuff. Still trying to figure stuff, but that's half the fun, so they tell me)

You can sent it to hansenmd@hotmail.com

    Thanks,

    Mark

  9. I know you can modify the file you view in the Knee board. I searched Avsim and found lots of utilities and things you can do.

    My questions are:

Has anybody modified to hit stuff on the web while flying?

Does anyone use the of the utilities our there? I downloaded lots and was wondering if there was any directions is should go to first.

I think it would be handy to be able to hit airport information (AirNav information) to get information. I have FS NAV loaded but try to stay away from that. I have sectionals I try to look at when I fly.

I started flying the Capt Sim C-130 now though a updated info on the knee board would be fun...

    Thanks

  10. As I do the finishing touches on this MP contest... what would be a good time for those of you that want to geive it go? I'm in the US Central time so I was thinking about mid day here. We don't want to get too late so the folks "across the pond" can give it a go without flying too late at night. (or is it us Yanks that are across the pond  ) OR, is most everyone towards the west of me?

If we don't get too much interest, we can forget about the altitude part, because we won't need to space out too much.

Who all wants to give it a go and try to get the flight check list book?
