Sentences parameter GPSout wideclient.ini
Pete Dowson replied to jensvanhoof's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
I just noticed. That GPSout is not sending to WideClient in any case, but COM13. Maybe you are using GPSout2 (there are two outputs available from FSUIPC). Pete -
Sentences parameter GPSout wideclient.ini
Pete Dowson replied to jensvanhoof's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
There's no code to make sentences in the Client, so I've really no idea. Try logging the stuff being received in the Client -- Log=PartRX should do the trick. The GPSout data received from FSUIPC should be logged (plus other stuff I think). Pete -

I don't know any way of doing that. Does Excel have such a programmable interface? You can try the Lua plug-in I mentioned. The file it produces can be immediately displayed in Excel. But I've no idea how you'd ever get that display updating automatically. I think there are programs which link to FS and display the location dynamically on Google Earth. You'd need to do a search. Sorry, I know nothing of VBA so I really cannot comment on this. Pete

Sentences parameter GPSout wideclient.ini
Pete Dowson replied to jensvanhoof's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Er, the "Sentences" parameter is nonsense to WideClient. It isn't WideClient which extracts the data and makes the sentences, it is FSUIPC. The Sentences parameter only ever goes into the FSUIPC settings -- but you select the sentences in the FSUIPC options tab for it! WideClient only receives sentences which FSUIPC sends it, no more. So you evidently have the GSA sentence sleected in FSUIPC! BTW you posted your question in the "FAQ" subforum, which is NOT a support place -- you are lucky I saw it. Please ALWAYS post questions to the main support forum. Pete -
Er, no. FSUIPC is an interface into FS for applications. I don't think Excel has an FSUIPC interface connection built it, has it? You'd need a program to link it. Ah, you mean write a file which Excel could read? That's different. Certainly it is easy enough to have a small plug-in which sends data from FS to a file, perhaps in "CSV" format ("comma separated variables") which I know Excel can read into a table. There's an example of such a plug-in called "Record to csv.lua" in the Lua examples ZIP in your FSUIPC documents folder! Pete

Using the exact same aircraft? Obviously, if youchoose an aircraft which is not yet assigned to a profile, they won't be loaded. Normally it is best to do all your default assignments, calibrations, etc, without using a profile, then just create profiles for when you decide you need things done differently for different classes of aircraft. For 90% of users things aren't that complicated and profiles aren't needed or used. Er, why? Removing FSUIPC will simply stop it loading so nothing will work! Reinstalling the same software should do the same thing, as it won't change between installs, obviously? The log is fine. The log is not the important thing here, it is your settings. Please show me the FSUIPC4.INI file, which is where they are stored. Do you disconnect and reconnect your joystick controls between sessions, or are they always left connected? Windows 8 and 10 both have the habit of losing or changing the joystick ID numbers if you do that. I suspect they may do it even if you do not disconnect/reconnect -- Win 7 was better in this area. Best to ask FSUIPC to use joystick letters for assignments so it can keep track. There's a chapter about that in the User Guide. You never fly anything else? If so, why a Profile just for one aircraft? Note that if you normally want to fly a specific aircraft each time you load FS, you'd be better off (speedier loading, etc), saving your normal starting flight "as default". Currently you are loading FS with this flight: E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\flights\other\FLTSIM.FLT and this aircraft: E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\Aircreation_582SL\Aircreation_582SL.air That's the install default for FSX-SE. Best to save your own default, saves a lot of FS messing at the start. Pete

elevator trim problem
Pete Dowson replied to Peter1708's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
I'm glad you solved it, but fail to understand how throttle changes on the ground caused it to make the trim behave wildly. Very strange. Thanks for letting me know. Pete -
Please post support requests in the main support forum, not in one of the sub-forums, UNLESS your problem is related to the .NET client dll, in which case you should post in FSUIPC Client DLL for .NET sub-forum, or for issues with FSUIPC7 (for MSFS) in which case you should post in FSUIPC / MSFS sub-forum. We cannot help anyone without any information. Nor do I support old versions. So: Please always install the currently supported one or later before asking for help. The ZIP packages with the Installer are available here in the Download Links -> Updated Modules sub-forum and also over at www.fsuipc.com. When you are sure you are using the supported version, if you still get a problem please provide the following information: 1. If raising a new topic / issue, give the post a reasonable descriptive title - if it is aircraft or controller specific, try and include those in the title as well. 2. A full description of the problem. Just saying things like "stops", "crashes", "freezes", "stutters", and "unplayable" is no help whatsoever. You must describe what happens -- i.e. what you see on screen and how you detect there is a 'problem'. 3. If there is a crash, then I need to see the Windows crash details -- especially the Module name and offset and the error code. If you forget to read in in the crash message, or it isn't there, check in the Windows Application logs in the Event Viewer. (Search 'Event Viewer' in the Windows Start edit box). 4. If FSUIPC is indeed loading, then it will generate a log file telling you and us what it is doing. This is most important. it is called FSUIPC<version>.LOG (where <version> is the FSUIPC version number, either 4, 5, 6, 7), and is found in your installation folder (which is the Modules folder for FSUIPC5 an earlier). It is a text file and you can attach it to your post. Also, if the problem is related to joystick recognition or assignment, then attach the file FSUIPC<version>.Joyscan.csv as well. (Note: Make sure you have turned off the annoying option in Windows Explorer which hides the full filenames from you. Otherwise distinguishing "LOG", "INI", "CFG" and "TXT" files is a pain.) 5. We also need to know if your FSUIPC is registered, and what other add-ons you are using. Also whether it's a default aircraft or an add-on aircraft. 6. Sometimes we may need to see your FSUIPC settings - especially if it an issue with your assignments. Those are in the FSUIPC<version>.INI file, again in the installation folder, and yet again another text file. Please also try searching the forum(s) before posting - most issues have already been asked and a solution readily available - if not already covered in the extensive documentation that we provide - although admittedly this can be difficult to navigate. Thanks for your understanding, Pete & John

FSUIPC 4.995 and P3D freeze problem
Pete Dowson replied to Marc63's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
I cannot help you at all without any information. Version 4.955 is now out of date. Please always install the currently supported one or later before asking for help. 4.955c is the current one and there's a later version, 4.955j, available in the Download Links subforum. When you are using the supported version, if you still get a problem please provide the following information: 1. A full description of the problem. Just saying "big freeze problem" and "unplayable" is no help whatsoever. You must describe what happens -- i.e. what you see on screen and how you detect there is a 'problem'. 2. If FSUIPC is indeed loading, then it will generate a log file telling you and I what it is doing. This is most important. it is called FSUIPC4.LOG and is found in the Modules folder in P3D. It is a text file and you can paste its contents, complete, into a message here. 3. I also need to know if your FSUIPC is registered, and what other add-ons you are using. Also whether it's a default aircraft or an add-on aircraft. Pete -
Cannot Assign Throttle and Mixture axis
Pete Dowson replied to ErichB's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Certainly a lot of folks had problems with Win8, and I've heard some stories about Win10, but really I don't know. I'd ask around in other forums. I'm sticking with Win7 forever now -- best O/S Microsoft ever produced, by a mile! You might also want to consider that it still isn't software, but hardware. Maybe the USB section of your motherboard is playing up. It might be worthwhile getting a separate plug-in USB board (if they still exist) and seeing if things work with that. Pete -
elevator trim problem
Pete Dowson replied to Peter1708's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Okay. There are a few things wrong: 1. You have two assignments to Rudders: 2=0R,256,D,3,0,0,0 -{ DIRECT: Rudder }- 6=1R,256,D,3,36,0,0 -{ DIRECT: Rudder, SteeringTiller }- I think maybe the second one is intended to be just steering tiller? 2. You have two separate assignments to Elevator Trup Up and Down: 18=R1,2,C65607,0 -{ELEV_TRIM_DN}- 19=R1,3,C65615,0 -{ELEV_TRIM_UP}- 39=R0,3,C65615,256 -{ELEV_TRIM_UP}- 40=R0,2,C65607,256 -{ELEV_TRIM_DN}- Not sure what you expect the parameters 256 to do. does that increase the effect? Dodn't think those controls used the parameters, but maybe they do. So why not post the Log too, so I can see what is happening? Sorry, what does this mean? That is starting to sound like corrupt files in the Sim. But let me see the log. Pete -
elevator trim problem
Pete Dowson replied to Peter1708's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Well if your only assignment on that throttle is for throttle, the elevator trim cannot be moved. Something else is going on. I can check your settings in FSUIPC if you like -- paste your entire FSUIPC4.INI file into a message. (it's in the Modules folder). Which elevator controls are you seeing? Are you logging Axis events or other events -- there are several different controls operating the elevator trim. Do you mean the trim still, or now the elevators? Is this with a default aircraft? FSUIPC makes no distinction with controls as to whether you are on the ground or flying, so that sounds something to do with the flight model. Try a default. Can you explain what you mean here? What are you logging and what do you mean "reaction"? You mean the trim as shown in the cockpit panel? Ah, in that case you must have some other add-on which is doing something differently depending on whether you are on the ground or not. What do you have running apart from FS? Are you using any Lua plug-ins, or LINDA or such? Pete -
FSUIPC and Arduino
Pete Dowson replied to cheeseburger's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Don't "read by character". Just accumulate the data checking the each character each time for your terminator. Look up the Lua string library. You can manipulate individual characters as you which. You concatenate strings simply by using the ".." notation, i.e. string1 = string1 .. string2 adds string2 to string1. Pete -
What is the point of having a button with makes the gear go and then down again, or vice versa? If you want one button to operate the Gear, assign to GEAR TOGGLE -- that's what the 'G' keypress does in FS by default. Assigning multiple actions to a button or key has to be done by editing the INI file directly. The Advanced User's guide for FSUIPC gives details and examples. Well, you'd need to know why it is doing that. What numbers to you see entering FSUIPC from the pedals? (Hint: enable axis logging in FSUIPC's Logging tab, and enable the console log so you can see it in real time -- with FS temporarily in Windowed mode). Pete

MakeRwys Closed Runways / Short Runways

I've made a note of all of your points and will check them when I get a moment. I'm afraid that might not be till I get back from my next travels, 20th September. I have a few days before going but will be pretty busy. Will post again if I find anything -- if you've not heard by, say, Friday 23rd, remind me, please. Pete- 17 replies

Yes. Assign it to the first action in the Option settings, then find the entry in the INI file and add another line with the other action. The format of the entries is described in the Advanced User's guide, and the complete list of FS controls, giving you the numbers to use, is in a PDF in your FSUIPC Documents folder. Why are they causing stutters? That makes no sense. Offsets are just values in memory, just as fast to change, or erven faster, than any other FS control action. What sort of things are you expecting offset changing to accomplish? Without any information about what you are doing I can't really help. Obviously changing offsets for, say, time of day, will cause a very long hesitation -- the scenery would reload. Some things don't take any time at all, other things may invoke lots of action in FS which does take time -- loading a different aircraft or plan, for example. What has the INI file to do with offsets? Do you mean you are assigning to the Offset controls? Pete

FSUIPC and Arduino
Pete Dowson replied to cheeseburger's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
As well as what Luke suggests you could detect a long enough time gap since the last reception and decide that what you received so far must be a complete command. If the commands are generated by you pressing bttons then that should be okay with a small number of milliseocnds (experiment), but if generated by program there may not be sufficient gap. Generally, for Arduino, if just use something obvious as a message terminator, like the "resturn" code, decimal 13. Pete -
MakeRwys Closed Runways / Short Runways
Pete Dowson replied to RJP's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Actually, I've just found another -- VHHX. I think the reason is that both of those have no runway "start" positions -- i.e. no entries in FS's runway list in the World - Go to airport menu. Certainly those with runway start positions (defined thresholds) do get correct CL and CT labels in the runways.csv file where appropriate, and TRUE in the fields in the XML. Those airports with no threshold positions listed are actually excluded from all of the files except the XML one, where I think they are only there by omission on my part -- I forgot to exclude them! The files are supposed to list only usable airports, ones where the programs which use them can actually direct aircraft to and from (mainly ATC programs). Evidently, for the ones included (in error I think) in the XML file, I bypassed the check on the open / close flagging. I could look at that and maybe fix it. It won't be for a few days though. No, closed runways won't have zero length, but a lot of add-on sceneries use what are called "ghost" runways, which are not displayed and have short lengths and often narrow widths. One I saw recently was 9 feet x 4 feet! I'm not sure why they do this -- something to do with dealing with different AI traffic patterns I think. I'm afraid I've no idea what the shortest runway length is in the default FS scenery. Why don't you try making one shorter (using an AFD program like Airport Design Editor) and check? In a few days, when I can get to looking at the code for your first point above, I can double check that I don't impose a "minimum minimum", It's unlikely, though, or it would (should) be mentioned. If it does it would be to eliminate those ghosts. Pete- 17 replies

That's a quick death for the program, which most certainly cannot allow FSUIPC to continue through to a normal close down. So where are these logs coming from? They absolutely cannot in any way be from a session terminated in that way! Apart from the termination, after 8-10 minutes varying in your logs, it manages to show successfully a minimum, maximum and average frame rate -- once those Lua plug-ins are removed. Those values are gleaned from regular updates sent to FSUIPC by SimConnect. With 0% CPU usage this could not happen! It takes some sort of processing to do this, and also processing just to make that log, ending after 8 minutes or so, of what, you looking at a blank screen? I can only help if I can see how far the log gets to the point where it is ruthlessly stopped by Task manager. There's no way I can diagnose it at all without that, sorry. Pete
-
But if the starting process is hanging, how is it that all of the logs you show, every single one of them, show FSUIPC terminating normally at the end of a session? And, what's more, with a decent FS frame rate showing? look: How is it possible for it to both hang AND continue with a decent frame rate and terminate normally? How is is lasting, as in the last log, for nearly 8 minutes with a decent average FS frame rate and then being closed normally? Is it showing all these frames invisibly? Is something else magically closing the session normally, with you only standing by? Maybe you mean something entirely different to me when you say "hang"? To get out of a hang, which is where things appear to freeze, no crash, just freeze, you'd have to call up Windows Task Manager and terminate the process. That's a "hang". It can't be hung and terminate normally. It can't be hung and give an average frame rate of 20 fps! I cannot possibly help when everything you've shown me since removing the GIT plug-in shows everything is okay. That plug-in did stop FSUIPC receiving the correct conditions to do what it normally does, but even then it terminated normally at the end of the session. It just didn't get the needed information from SimConnect. In fact, looking more at what the GITlua was doing I wouldn't at all be surprised if there wasn't a clash with SimConnect's own TCP/IP sockets/ports causing that. Sorry, I think you need to be a lot clearer in your reporting. Pete
-
I just checked there, and there's no mention of GIT needing a registered version of FSUIPC, which it certainly would if it were dependent upon any Lua plug-ins. Maybe your GIT installation is out of date and they've changed? Might be a good idea to make sure you are up to date -- then you can remove those Lua plugins altogether. Pete
-
Well, there's no other point to that GITlua program, though I suppose it may be using the network protocol just to talk to programs on the same PC? If you need it, change the ipcInit to ipcReady. Pete
